About Us

Who We Are

Established in 2006, Westervelt Ecological Services (WES) is an integral part of The Westervelt Company, a century-old land resource organization committed to preserving resources for future generations. WES owns and operates mitigation and conservation banks on company-owned properties and provides environmental mitigation and habitat planning services to private landowners, businesses, government agencies, non-profits, and land trust organizations across the United States.

WES is proud of its reputation for high-quality, large-scale conservation and restoration projects that have resulted in the protection of land and resources for future generations. Our professional staff of senior planners, ecologists, landscape architects, economists, and engineers manage over 27,000 acres of preserved wetland and endangered species habitat nationwide.

“As a large landowner, we understand the importance of active land stewardship.  We know the true value of our land comes from responsible management of our natural resources.  We understand our commitment to these landscapes is not just for today but for the benefit of everyone’s future.”

Our Mission

To provide enduring ecological solutions for the benefit of our stakeholders and the lands we conserve.

Our Values

Sustainability – We believe that sustainability, the core of our legacy as stewards of the land, is one of our greatest responsibilities to uphold. Protecting our natural resources is more than a commitment – it’s the standard we hold ourselves to.

Safety – We believe that nothing is more important than the safety and well-being of our employees.

Quality – We believe that our customers deserve the highest quality services available in our industry.

Community – We believe we have a responsibility to act with integrity and build beneficial, long-lasting relationships in the communities where we live and work.

Headquartered in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, The Westervelt Company owns and manages forests certified to FSC and SFI standards in the southeastern United States from which it produces lumber and wood products for domestic and international markets, creates master plans for commercial and residential real estate, and offers sporting recreational activities across the globe. Privately-owned since its founding in 1884, the company continues to embrace its founder’s belief that “quality counts,” and commits to providing exceptional value and service to our customers; we take pride in being fair, honest, and open in all our dealings.
As a leader in the industry of wetland, stream, and endangered species mitigation banks and services nationwide, we create an atmosphere and attitude toward safety that rivals that of our stewardship for the land, restoration of sensitive habitat, and protection of species. Along with that notion, the safety and preventative care of the human species is also paramount to our daily operations. As such, we have pledged to cultivate a safe and healthful working environment for ourselves, our co-workers, and our clients.
