A 1,060-acre site located in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, Big Sandy Mitigation Bank is a viable compensatory mitigation alternative for stream and wetland impacts within the mitigation service area, as authorized by an Army Corps of Engineers permit, pursuant to Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. This project will ultimately protect a stretch of approximately 4.0 miles on both sides of Big Sandy Creek and South Sandy Creek.

Re-establishing the fullest ecological potential of this segment of the Big Sandy Creek ecosystem will increase the likelihood of long-term survival and/or species richness for a diversity of aquatic biota and wetland wildlife.

Adjacent to Talladega National Forest, Big Sandy Mitigation Bank is approved to sell wetland and stream credits in portions of Franklin, Lawrence, Marion, Winston, Cullman, Marshall, Blount, Jefferson, Walker, Fayette, Lamar, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Perry, Hale, Greene, Sumter, and Marengo counties.
